On the 10th of October, the 7th Baku International Book Fair 2021, which was dedicated to the 880th anniversary of the outstanding Azerbaijani poet and thinker, Nizami Ganjavi, completed its work at Baku Expo Center. It should be emphasized that the effect of the exhibition exceeded all expectations. A lot of grateful responses came to the organisers and participants of this event, which guests and old-timers called a book holiday.

About 200 publishing houses and printing companies from Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, France, Indonesia, Iran, Colombia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Egypt, Uzbekistan, Russia and Turkey took part in the exhibition-fair.

The exhibition was attended by several thousand people. In terms of the composition of its participants and organisations / companies, including the invited guests, the fair is the largest in the region. During the exhibition days, about two hundred different events for adults and children took place. Thousands of visitors, among whom there were a lot of young people, students and schoolchildren, with great interest examined the bright, richly decorated stands showing masterpieces of world classics, textbooks and scientific research, poetry and children's literature. The rating of the event has grown significantly due to the sale of popular literature and title publications, which visitors were eagerly snapping up these days.

Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ali Ahmadov, noted that the exhibition is a worthy indicator of the love and devotion of the Azerbaijani state and society to the book as a source of civilization.

Minister of Culture of Azerbaijan, Anar Karimov, called the book the most important tool for the development and education of people.

According to the Minister of Education of Azerbaijan, Emin Amrullayev, the current exhibition has successfully attracted the attention of teachers, schoolchildren and students.

The organisers aimed at several important factors at once: promotion and popularization of books and reading, familiarization with the printed products of Azerbaijani and foreign publishing houses, support for publishing, acquaintance of publishers with bookstores for potential cooperation, exchange of experience and ideas on the development of the book business in the digital age.

Famous Azerbaijani and foreign writers became special guests on different days of the exhibition: Chingiz Abdullayev, Elkhan Elatly, Elchin Aliyev, Nail Alizade, Gulseren Bugdayidzhioghlu, Ercan Kesal, Toghrul Mehti Niyazi and many others.

A serious place in the creative workshop of the forum was taken by the theme of Karabakh, the outstanding victory of the Azerbaijani army under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev over the enemy. The authors presented their books, notes, essays and poems dedicated to the Victory. The project “İgidlərin Sözü” by the poetess Nigar Hasanzade deserves special attention. Within the framework of the project, veterans recited poems written during the 44-day Karabakh war.

“We love book exhibitions because they bring together the past and the future, the writer and the reader, science and education” - this opinion of many VIP guests of the exhibition has become one of the best illustrations of a unique international holiday of books.
